We are pleased to introduce Pawalla team member Dr. Susan Lauten.  As the Pawalla Pet Nutritionist, Dr. Lauten plays a key role in selecting the products we feature and customizing our monthly boxes based on the size and life stage of all our Pawalla pets.

Dr. Lauten is the founder of Pet Nutrition Consulting, which was established in 2001 to provide science-based nutrition services to veterinarians, specialists, and private clients around the world. As the principal of Pet Nutrition Consulting, she provides nutritional advice, planning, and diet formulation services for both healthy pets and for those with special medical conditions.  Susan also advises food manufacturers such as Hartz and Nature’s Variety pet foods on diet formulation.

Dr. Lauten earned a Masters in Agriculture and a PhD in Biomedical Sciences from the College of Veterinary Medicine at Auburn University, where she focused on companion animal nutrition.  After completing her PhD, Dr. Lauten accepted a post doctoral position at the University of Tennessee, College of Veterinary Medicine.  At the University of Tennessee she spent 6 years working with renowned veterinary internists and nutritionists Dr. Joe Bartges and Dr. Claudia Kirk, training veterinary students, and providing consultations to veterinarians.  Dr. Lauten also co-founded an animal-assisted therapy group and has been active with animal-assisted therapy and community outreach for several years.
